Sentence Writing Success Toolkit
for K-2 teachers
For K-2 teachers
You're not alone. Strong writing begins with strong sentences, and young writers need clear steps and lots of supported practice before those skills stick. Our toolkit gives you both.
Includes a 1-hour masterclass and a 9-lesson mini-unit. Instant access by email.
Sound familiar?
It's 10 o'clock on a Wednesday. Writing block. You put a photo of a child and a dog on the board and ask the kids to write about it.
Then you circle the room. Incomplete sentences. Missing periods. Lowercase names. Words squished together. Even though you just taught a lesson on this.
"What am I doing wrong? Why won't this stick?"
It's not you. One lesson isn't enough. Young writers need clear steps and lots of supported practice before those skills stick.

How the toolkit works
Each step builds on the last, so kids learn how a sentence is put together before they're asked to write one alone.

Every sentence needs a "who or what" and a "does what." Students find both in a picture, then put them together into one complete sentence.
the kid + is kicking = The kid is kicking.

Students trace a sentence, fill in words using the same structure, then write their own. One structure repeats on each page, so they internalize it and use it independently.
Do you like the ___ ?

Once the sentence is complete, students add detail by answering where, when, why or how. Short sentences grow into strong ones.
The balloon is flying in the sky.
Most worksheets ask kids for a sentence. Ours show them how to build one.
Easy to use
No prep. Use the sheets for whole-class lessons, small groups or quick warm-ups.
Every Building Sentences sheet ends with an editing checklist, so students look for the capital, the spaces and the period before you do.
Meet students where they are, whether they're total beginners or just need stronger sentences.
Engaging photos give every child something to say, and keep them focused.
