Blending Lines | Vowel Teams

This set of 26 blending lines will help your students master words with vowel teams! These blending lines are great for helping students apply phonics skills and increase their reading fluency. The words and sentences on the blending lines were carefully chosen and arranged to help your students be successful! This resource is aligned to the science of reading.

You can use these vowel teams blending lines in a whole group setting (after teaching or reviewing a phonics skill), in a small group setting (i.e. before reading a decodable text), or as independent practice. Students can also take these home for at-home practice.

Students will each have their own copy of the blending lines sheet, and they will practice reading it multiple times. Every time they finish reading the page, they get to color in a star at the top. (This helps them stay motivated to read it multiple times!)

Differentiation with these vowel teams blending lines is easy! For each skill, there is a "basic / easier" page, as well as at least one "challenge" page. You might give different sheets to different students, or have students practice the basic sheet and then move on to the challenge sheet. The table of contents makes all the different options easy to find and print.

IMPORTANT: If you own a license of the From Sounds to Spelling phonics program, you do not need to purchase these vowel team blending lines. They are already included in the "bonuses" section of your login area.

Multiple blending lines (including some with multisyllabic words) are included for:

- ai

- ay

- ee

- ea

- igh

- oa

- ow

- ue

- ew

- mixed vowel teams (multiple)

My file isn’t printing correctly. How do I fix this?

The vast majority of printing problems can be fixed with the “Print as Image” solution in Adobe Reader! Learn more about how to do that here HERE.

Where can I learn more about your literacy products and how to use them?

We have a free catalog that walks you through my main resources. It can help you decide which resources are right for you and your students! You can grab the catalog HERE.

I teach in a split-grade class (i.e. 1st and 2nd). How should I select products for my students?

Alison always recommends getting the lower of the two grade levels. So if you teach in a 1st and 2nd grade class, get a 1st grade version. You can always differentiate in small groups or 1:1 to challenge your more advanced students!

I teach in Canada and am looking to buy some of your literacy products. How does the Canadian curriculum align to the U.S. curriculum?

Our Canadian customers tell us that it’s best to purchase one grade level down. If you teach first grade, for example, try a Kindergarten product. You can also check the preview file of any resource in our TpT store to see example lessons to help you make your decision!

These games are great! I love that there is an assessment with it so I can really see what skills my students need more practice with. Once they learn the games they are able to do them independently as well.

I used this resource when a couple of my students picked decoding multisyllabic words as their goal. This really allowed them to work on their goal independently! I loved that they were able to own their learning.

My students love these games for small groups, and once some of them are able to play them independently, they are able to teach others! Great academic skill review that is fun for them!
