These nonfiction decodables teach first grade students about animal and plant parts, how young plants and animals rely on their parents, and how plants and animals are like their parents. Each decodable passage is provided at 3 difficulty levels (with different phonics skills), so you can easily differentiate!
It can be hard to find time to fit everything into the busy school day. This set of nonfiction decodables does “double duty” by helping you cover science standards AND literacy! With these materials, your first graders will get in-context phonics practice and build reading fluency - all while learning important science concepts.
The texts cover the life science standards within the First Grade Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) - but they also work well with most other science standards/programs.

I teach in a split-grade class (i.e. 1st and 2nd). How should I select products for my students?
Alison always recommends getting the lower of the two grade levels. So if you teach in a 1st and 2nd grade class, get a 1st grade version. You can always differentiate in small groups or 1:1 to challenge your more advanced students!
I teach in Canada and am looking to buy some of your literacy products. How does the Canadian curriculum align to the U.S. curriculum?
