Frequently Asked Questions:

What scope and sequence or program do these texts follow?

You can use these decodable texts with any phonics program. You can view the skills covered in each book, as well as the sequence of the skills, in the free preview file.

Will these books match my high frequency word instruction?

Your students can be successful reading these decodable readers even if your high frequency word instruction is not a 100% match. Each lesson plan lists out all the high frequency words / irregular words covered in the text, so you can pre-teach any words that students do not already know.

Will this cover all my phonics instruction?

No. These decodable texts are meant to supplement a phonics program, not replace one. You will still need explicit, systematic phonics lessons to teach each sound / pattern. If you need a complete program, check out From Sounds to Spelling (available off TpT).

Are these decodable texts the same ones in your phonics program, From Sounds to Spelling?

No - they are different! They will work nicely with the program if you find yourself needing more decodable texts.

Why are the Kindergarten and 1st grade texts available in a book format AND passage format, but the 2nd grade texts are available only in a passage format?

Typically, 2nd grade students need less picture support. The 2nd grade passages do have illustrations, but they are included in a 1-page format to save you time and paper.

FAQ

My file isn’t printing correctly. How do I fix this?

The vast majority of printing problems can be fixed with the “Print as Image” solution in Adobe Reader! Learn more about how to do that here HERE.

Where can I learn more about your literacy products and how to use them?

We have a free catalog that walks you through my main resources. It can help you decide which resources are right for you and your students! You can grab the catalog HERE.

I teach in a split-grade class (i.e. 1st and 2nd). How should I select products for my students?

Alison always recommends getting the lower of the two grade levels. So if you teach in a 1st and 2nd grade class, get a 1st grade version. You can always differentiate in small groups or 1:1 to challenge your more advanced students!

I teach in Canada and am looking to buy some of your literacy products. How does the Canadian curriculum align to the U.S. curriculum?

Our Canadian customers tell us that it’s best to purchase one grade level down. If you teach first grade, for example, try a Kindergarten product. You can also check the preview file of any resource in our TpT store to see example lessons to help you make your decision!

These games are great! I love that there is an assessment with it so I can really see what skills my students need more practice with. Once they learn the games they are able to do them independently as well.

I used this resource when a couple of my students picked decoding multisyllabic words as their goal. This really allowed them to work on their goal independently! I loved that they were able to own their learning.

My students love these games for small groups, and once some of them are able to play them independently, they are able to teach others! Great academic skill review that is fun for them!

This is a great resource. It can be used for whole group teaching or for centers. I find this product more useful for centers. We use the QPS on our students and group them by needs when it comes to reading. This is great to use to help students meet those needs during intervention and can also be sent home as homework for extra practice. I highly recommend this resource.
