First Grade Back to School Literacy Packet: "I Can Work By Myself!"
Description
Need some materials for your first grade students to work on independently? This "I Can Work By Myself" packet includes 32 pages of "print and use" activities for the first few months of the school year!
At the beginning of first grade, you need simple, easy-to-teach activities as your students re-learn independent work skills. Since back to school time is so busy, you also need to have no-prep activities on hand so you don't spend hours cutting and assembling materials!
All of the following skills are covered in this packet:
- Short vowel sounds
- Digraphs
- Consonant blends
- Fluency and comprehension (8 short reading passages and questions are included)
- Sentence structure
- Sequence of events
- Handwriting
Note about use during the pandemic: All of these activities can be done without partner or small group work. If you are keeping your students separated for social distancing, these materials are perfect for independent work. If you're doing remote learning, you may share any and all pages from this packet with students' families (via email or a secure site where families log in). You may not use this resource for teaching on Outschool.

I teach in a split-grade class (i.e. 1st and 2nd). How should I select products for my students?
Alison always recommends getting the lower of the two grade levels. So if you teach in a 1st and 2nd grade class, get a 1st grade version. You can always differentiate in small groups or 1:1 to challenge your more advanced students!
I teach in Canada and am looking to buy some of your literacy products. How does the Canadian curriculum align to the U.S. curriculum?
