Interactive Guided Reading Mats for 1st Grade and 2nd Grade

$13.25
Description

Support your first grade or second grade guided reading groups with these interactive mats!

Just choose the mat you want, print copies for your students, and use them as a support during the lesson. The mats will remind students what strategies they should be using before, during, and after reading. The mats also provide a simple activity for students who finish the book early (this part of the mat can also be used as part of your post-reading word work).

88 different mat options are included. The clickable table of contents makes them easy to access and navigate.

You can use these mats for any type of small group reading instruction - not just guided reading!

These leveled mats will help you:

- Organize your lessons and suggest reading strategies to work on at each level

- Give early finishers something to do that you don't have to prepare

- Provide consistent visuals that remind students to use a core set of highly-effective reading strategies

- Empower students to take more ownership of their reading

What levels are covered?

There are mats included for Levels D-N.

(Note: if you're also looking at the Kindergarten mats, no mats are duplicates. Even though Levels D and E are also covered in the 1st and 2nd grade mats, the actual materials are different.)

What prep is required?

None! Simply print and use the mats. You can even re-use the mats by placing them in page protectors.

Are the mats editable?

Editable templates are included so you can create your own mats, if you like. However, the provided mats are not editable due to copyrights on the graphics.

What strategies are covered?

To see the strategies covered, please view the preview file (the last 4 pages includes the table of contents). Many strategies are covered multiple times - it's more important for students to fully master a core set of effective strategies than it is for them to learn tons of different strategies.

FAQ

My file isn’t printing correctly. How do I fix this?

The vast majority of printing problems can be fixed with the “Print as Image” solution in Adobe Reader! Learn more about how to do that here HERE.

Where can I learn more about your literacy products and how to use them?

We have a free catalog that walks you through my main resources. It can help you decide which resources are right for you and your students! You can grab the catalog HERE.

I teach in a split-grade class (i.e. 1st and 2nd). How should I select products for my students?

Alison always recommends getting the lower of the two grade levels. So if you teach in a 1st and 2nd grade class, get a 1st grade version. You can always differentiate in small groups or 1:1 to challenge your more advanced students!

I teach in Canada and am looking to buy some of your literacy products. How does the Canadian curriculum align to the U.S. curriculum?

Our Canadian customers tell us that it’s best to purchase one grade level down. If you teach first grade, for example, try a Kindergarten product. You can also check the preview file of any resource in our TpT store to see example lessons to help you make your decision!

These games are great! I love that there is an assessment with it so I can really see what skills my students need more practice with. Once they learn the games they are able to do them independently as well.

I used this resource when a couple of my students picked decoding multisyllabic words as their goal. This really allowed them to work on their goal independently! I loved that they were able to own their learning.

My students love these games for small groups, and once some of them are able to play them independently, they are able to teach others! Great academic skill review that is fun for them!
