Description
Reading and phonics worksheets, sight word practice, take-home books, and family reading games for beginning readers at Guided Reading Levels A-E!

------

As a Kindergarten teacher, I struggled to find literacy homework that was engaging and family-friendly. I also wanted to differentiate the homework assignments I gave my students. But I couldn’t find a way to do so without spending hours preparing materials!

I knew I wanted to give my students and their families tools to facilitate at-home learning. So I developed homework packs that are designed specifically for students at a given guided reading level.

This bundle is perfect for beginning readers who are pre-readers or can read Level A, B, or C texts with support. The take-home books will empower your students to practice their beginning reading skills at home. The accompanying games, activities, and worksheets will develop their phonemic awareness, phonics, sight word, handwriting, and writing skills.

These materials will:
  • Provide you with a variety of literacy homework activities to choose from
  • Help you educate parents about how to help their children with homework (through instructions sheets in English and Spanish, and links to 55 different optional parent videos)
  • Allow you to assign activities appropriate for students whose families can support them with the homework, as well as students who must complete homework on their own
  • Make differentiating homework assignments quick and easy (if you choose to differentiate)
  • Give you over 750 pages of materials that you can also use during guided reading and/or literacy centers

Here’s what this pack includes:
  • Parent letters (in English & Spanish) to help you find out more about families’ homework needs, as well as educate and inform parents
  • Organizational materials to help you quickly and easily differentiate homework assignments
  • 32 take-home books written at levels AA, A, B, and C (easy texts that students can read independently) + written parent directions sheets in English and Spanish, and links to brief videos with parent tips for reading with their child
  • 32 literacy games or activities that families can complete with their children + written parent directions sheets in English and Spanish, and links to brief videos with tips for completing the activities
  • 140 literacy worksheets that students can complete independently or with family support

The following skills are addressed:
  • Emergent reading skills (pointing 1:1, using picture clues, looking at the first letter of a word, monitoring for meaning, etc.)
  • Drawing and writing in response to a text
  • Identifying and generating rhyming words
  • Identifying the beginning sound in a word
  • Identifying and writing the beginning letter in a word
  • Sorting pictures by their initial sounds
  • Identifying and writing the final letter in a word
  • Identifying and writing alphabet letters
  • Finding pictures that start with a given letter sound
  • Matching capital and lowercase alphabet letters
  • Reading and writing CVC words
  • Reading and writing digraphs
  • Reading words with word families / simple spelling patterns
  • Reading, writing, and making simple sight words (a, the, is, to, my, an, go, I, and, see, at, on, he, up, she, like, you, yes, no, can, me, in, so, we, it, do, am, said, look, little, not, was - but there are also blank materials so that you can replace these with sight words of your choice)

FAQ

My file isn’t printing correctly. How do I fix this?

The vast majority of printing problems can be fixed with the “Print as Image” solution in Adobe Reader! Learn more about how to do that here HERE.

Where can I learn more about your literacy products and how to use them?

We have a free catalog that walks you through my main resources. It can help you decide which resources are right for you and your students! You can grab the catalog HERE.

I teach in a split-grade class (i.e. 1st and 2nd). How should I select products for my students?

Alison always recommends getting the lower of the two grade levels. So if you teach in a 1st and 2nd grade class, get a 1st grade version. You can always differentiate in small groups or 1:1 to challenge your more advanced students!

I teach in Canada and am looking to buy some of your literacy products. How does the Canadian curriculum align to the U.S. curriculum?

Our Canadian customers tell us that it’s best to purchase one grade level down. If you teach first grade, for example, try a Kindergarten product. You can also check the preview file of any resource in our TpT store to see example lessons to help you make your decision!

These games are great! I love that there is an assessment with it so I can really see what skills my students need more practice with. Once they learn the games they are able to do them independently as well.

I used this resource when a couple of my students picked decoding multisyllabic words as their goal. This really allowed them to work on their goal independently! I loved that they were able to own their learning.

My students love these games for small groups, and once some of them are able to play them independently, they are able to teach others! Great academic skill review that is fun for them!
