Phonics Booklets | Interactive Reference Books for K-3 Phonics Skills

Use these printable pages to have your students create interactive phonics booklets! As you teach each phonics pattern (from letter sounds to vowel teams to diphthongs and more), students will glue the corresponding card into their booklets. Students’ phonics booklets grow throughout the year as they learn more phonics skills! This resource is aligned to the science of reading.

These phonics booklets are a great way to help students retain what they’ve learned. Students can “read” the booklets during small group, independently, and/or at home to review previously-taught phonics skills. Students can also use these phonics booklets as a reference tool, to help them read and write words!

IMPORTANT: If you own a license of the From Sounds to Spelling phonics program, you do not need to purchase these booklets. They are already included in the "bonuses" section of your login area.

Sound cards are included for:

- Consonants: b, c, d, f, g, h, j, k, l, m, n p, qu, r, s, t, v, w, x, y z (plus soft c, soft g, and /z/ sound for s)

- Short vowels: a, e, i, o (including spelled with a), u (including spelled with a - schwa), ea

- Consonant digraphs: ch, sh, th, wh, ck, ph, kn, gh, wr, mb

Only use the sound cards for the phonics patterns that you’ll be teaching! You can even differentiate if some students are more advanced and learning additional sounds.

Printing these materials is easy! You can print pages that have multiple different patterns (great if students will be adding a handful of sounds at once, or for reading intervention) OR pages that have multiples of the same phonics pattern on them (great for prepping class sets). Both color and black and white options are included.

My file isn’t printing correctly. How do I fix this?

The vast majority of printing problems can be fixed with the “Print as Image” solution in Adobe Reader! Learn more about how to do that here HERE.

Where can I learn more about your literacy products and how to use them?

We have a free catalog that walks you through my main resources. It can help you decide which resources are right for you and your students! You can grab the catalog HERE.

I teach in a split-grade class (i.e. 1st and 2nd). How should I select products for my students?

Alison always recommends getting the lower of the two grade levels. So if you teach in a 1st and 2nd grade class, get a 1st grade version. You can always differentiate in small groups or 1:1 to challenge your more advanced students!

I teach in Canada and am looking to buy some of your literacy products. How does the Canadian curriculum align to the U.S. curriculum?

Our Canadian customers tell us that it’s best to purchase one grade level down. If you teach first grade, for example, try a Kindergarten product. You can also check the preview file of any resource in our TpT store to see example lessons to help you make your decision!

These games are great! I love that there is an assessment with it so I can really see what skills my students need more practice with. Once they learn the games they are able to do them independently as well.

I used this resource when a couple of my students picked decoding multisyllabic words as their goal. This really allowed them to work on their goal independently! I loved that they were able to own their learning.

My students love these games for small groups, and once some of them are able to play them independently, they are able to teach others! Great academic skill review that is fun for them!
