This reading comprehension strategies unit is designed to teach students how to make text-to-text connections. Students will learn how to compare and contrast fiction and nonfiction texts. The lessons use real literature, and you can select books from a list of many different suggestions.
Through mini-lessons that gradually release responsibility, your students will learn to:
- Make purposeful connections between all kinds of texts
- Compare characters, settings, problems, solutions, and main ideas of fiction texts
- Compare and contrast important details from different nonfiction texts on the same topic
- Compare and contrast text features in nonfiction texts
