First Grade Writing Workshop Intro Unit {1st Grade Writing Workshop Unit 1}
Writing lessons, printable posters and materials, assessments, and rubrics to help you launch your first grade writing workshop!
This 3-4 week unit will teach your first grade students the routines and procedures of writing workshop.
This unit is designed to be taught at the beginning of the school year but can also be used whenever you begin to implement writing workshop. The unit will help you establish routines and will also guide you through taking beginning-of-the-year narrative, informational, and opinion writing samples from your students.
In this unit, students will learn:
- The routines and procedures of writing workshop
- The basics of planning a story
- Different spelling strategies
- The stages in the writing process
- Basic revising strategies, including how to add more details
- Editing strategies
- How to share work with a partner and how to revise/edit with a partner
This unit includes:
- 18 minilessons that will last about 3.5 weeks
- Supplemental daily language arts/grammar exercises
- Clear unit goals, daily objectives, and Common Core alignment
- Posters, visual aids, and materials to go with the minilessons (all color materials also have black and white versions included)
- Printable writing paper
- An alphabet chart, sight word booklet, and revising/editing checklist for students to use
- FAQ and important information to help you set up the writing workshop
- Rubrics, anecdotal note forms, and other materials to help you get organized
- Narrative, informational, and opinion writing rubrics that you can use throughout the year
